Who is AIP?

The Aviation Integrity Project is a non-profit, citizens watchdog group headed by Terry Brunner, former head of the Better Government Association. AIP was formed to independently investigate waste, fraud and corruption at O’Hare Airport in January, 2001. AIP is funded by the Suburban O’Hare Commission, a collective of suburbs surrounding O’Hare, and is staffed by a dedicated team of trained independent investigators and researchers.

How do we do our job?

We use the fundamentals of investigative journalism—research, interviews and documentation—to root out corruption and expose it to public scrutiny. We gather and coordinate information into databases, timelines and media stories. We also develop sources within government who feed us key documents when they observe corruption first-hand. We work with the media through exclusive stories and press conferences.

Where does our information come from?

We gathered information from 67,000 pages of the city’s internal documents outlining their expansion plans for the last 20 years, campaign finance records from the federal government, and dozens of other public sources.

Why do we do what we do?

We work to ensure policy decisions of public importance are made in an open and honest way so that everyone affected can participate in the issues at hand.
